Open Instagram Web
Click the extension icon in your toolbar — Instagram will open in a clean, dedicated popup window sized perfectly for desktop use. Alternatively, visit www.instagram.com and log in. The extension activates automatically on the page.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why isn't the floating toolbar appearing on Instagram?
Make sure you are on www.instagram.com and fully logged in. Try refreshing the page. If the toolbar still doesn't appear, go to chrome://extensions, disable Instagram for Web, then re-enable it and refresh Instagram.
Why am I not receiving desktop notifications?
Notification permission may have been denied. Click the lock icon in your browser's address bar while on instagram.com, find the Notifications setting, change it to "Allow", and refresh the page.
Does this extension work on mobile?
No — this is a Chrome desktop browser extension for www.instagram.com on PC or Mac. It has no effect on the Instagram mobile app on Android or iOS.
Is my Instagram account safe to use with this extension?
Yes. The extension never accesses your login credentials, session tokens, or private content. It only reads publicly visible DOM elements on the Instagram page (such as notification badge counts) to display the unread badge on the extension icon.
The unread badge count seems inaccurate — why?
Instagram's web interface uses dynamic rendering that can change over time. If the count seems off, try refreshing Instagram. The extension reads the notification indicators visible on the page and updates the badge accordingly.
How do I disable the floating toolbar?
You can remove the extension entirely from chrome://extensions to stop the toolbar from appearing. There is no per-feature toggle to hide just the toolbar at this time.
How do I uninstall the extension?
Go to chrome://extensions, find Instagram for Web, and click Remove. All locally stored settings will be erased automatically and the toolbar will no longer appear on Instagram.
